Hans W. Finzel

Hans W. Finzel

The son of a rocket scientist, Hans Finzel (Th.M. 1978) had his sights set high early in life. Hans is a first-generation American whose family moved from Germany to Alabama. His father was one of about 100 German scientists brought to America at the end of World War II with Dr. Wernher Von Braun to "launch" the U.S. space program.

Hans met his wife Donna at Columbia International University in South Carolina, and their first mission together was to Texas to attend Dallas Seminary. Hans later received a doctor of missiology degree from Fuller (D.Miss 1989).

After pastoring a church in California for two years, Hans and Donna were called to overseas missions, so they joined WorldVenture in 1980 (formerly CBInternational) and moved to Vienna, Austria. During this decade of ministry in Eastern Europe, Hans served as field chairman for the WorldVenture Vienna field and as administrative director, personnel director, teaching facilitator, and writer for BEE International.

In 1991 he joined the home office staff of WorldVenture, and 2 years later he became the organization's fifth president. In this role he oversees the deployment of over 600 short- and long-term missionaries. WorldVenture, serves the body of Christ on five continents and impacts 65 countries. The ministry focus is the fulfillment of the Great Commission through the primary tasks of evangelizing the lost, establishing local churches, and equipping national leadership.

"We do a lot of things at WorldVenture, but the end result is the growth of healthy, reproducing New Testament churches—churches that will make a difference in the world in which they are planted."

And while his father's focus was reaching beyond our world, Hans' mission is a little closer to home.

"Our goal is to take the good news of Jesus Christ to every man, woman, boy, and girl on planet Earth, and especially to those who have had the least opportunity to hear." Believing that life's greatest reward is making a lasting impact on the world, Hans serves together with the rest of the WorldVenture team for the purpose of "making a difference to the glory of God and spreading that glory on every continent."

Hans has published six books: Empowered Leaders (part of the Swindoll Leadership Library), The Top Ten Ways to Love Your Wife (coauthored with Donna), Help! I'm a Baby Boomer, Unlocking the Scriptures, Change is Like a Slinky, and his popular The Top Ten Mistakes Leaders Make. Hans also teaches as adjunct faculty at Trinity Seminary in Deerfield, Illinois; Southern Baptist Seminary in Louisville, Ky; Columbia International University in South Carolina; Fuller School of Intercultural Studies in Pasadena, Ca; and at Denver Seminary in Denver, Colorado. The Finzels live in Highlands Ranch, Colorado, with their four children—Mark, Jeremy, Cambria, and Andrew (twins).
