Thanks for checking out DTS admissions! I’m so glad that you have taken this step toward achieving one of the most important goals in your life. Dallas Theological Seminary is an amazing place to be, and I am delighted that I have the privilege of working with students like you every day!
Not long ago, a pretty big change occurred in my life and God started me on an adventure. My husband was offered a promotion within his company, and after much prayer, we decided to leave our home in Minnesota and move to Dallas, Texas! I have to admit that I definitely struggled on this one. So if you are feeling nervous, anxious, excited, a little scared, and overwhelmed all at the same time, I know how you feel!
God uses so many things in our lives to direct us in His steps. For you, it could be a simple and straightforward calling that you have known all your life: God is calling you to the ministry. Or, maybe this is an all-of-a-sudden change in your life, and you feel a little blind-sided. But either way, you know that the Lord doesn’t make mistakes, and when we follow His will for our lives, we are more fulfilled than we ever thought possible! God led me to DTS because I needed work, and it wasn’t too long before I realized that He might just have a few more plans for me here than just a job. I’m in the process of becoming a student as well, and can’t wait to see what He has in store for me.
So as you seek the Lord’s guidance about this decision, know that we are praying for you, and we are here to answer any question that you might have. We want to serve you! Just let us know how we can help. God’s blessings and I’m sure I’ll be talking to you soon!
What are your hobbies or outside interests?
Singing, playing guitar, kickboxing, playing volleyball, hanging out with my husband, discovering Dallas, and just spending time with friends and family!
What made you decide to go to DTS?
Initially, I needed a job and loved the admissions environment, so it just made sense! But what I hadn’t yet realized was that God was leading me into the next part of His plan for my life. Now, I am in the process of becoming a student and am preparing my heart and mind to delve deeper into His Word.
What do you do on your day off?
Hmmm...well, cleaning and doing laundry are (sad to say) near the top of the list, but I definitely have to sleep in, maybe go to a movie, go swimming, take a drive, or ask my husband to take me out on a date!
What are your favorite foods?
Pizza! Almost any kind of pasta (I love Olive Garden), a good steak, ice cream cake, my step-mom’s lasagna, chocolate ice cream, okay...anything chocolate, a chai tea latte, guacamole, and ice cold Dr. Pepper!
What is your favorite television show of all time?
All time? Well, I love Friends, but right now I’m hooked on House.
What is the best part about working in the DTS admissions office?
The wonderful people that I get to work with and students that I get to meet every day! On my first day here, they actually cheered for me when I walked in! And I love that I get to serve students and help them on the road to achieving an amazing goal in their life.
What is your favorite piece of literature?
The Bible! (Is that the Sunday school answer?) I love the books by Frank Peretti: This Present Darkness, Piercing the Darkness, The Oath, The Visitation, etc.
What is your favorite quote?
“The remarkable thing is we have a choice everyday regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past...we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude. I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% of how I react to it. And so it is with you...we are in charge of our attitudes.” -Charles R. Swindoll
What is your favorite musical artist/group/genre of music?
I like a variety - really good praise music that makes me want to get my hands in the air, and some older stuff like DC Talk, Michael W. Smith, Steven Curtis Chapman. I love Shane and Shane! I also really like Josh Groban and Michael Buble, John Mayer, Chris Daughtry, Matt Kearney, and music from the 50’s and 60’s.
What was your major in college?
Communication Studies
Who is the person you admire most and why?
My dad is amazing. He’s been one of the biggest examples of godliness to me in my life, and he is a great dad. He is devoted to his family, and I respect him for his honor, his humility, integrity, and his kindness.
Who is your favorite Bible character and why?
Probably David. He was so passionate about the Lord, and desired so much to become more like Him. But he also had some serious failings. It reminds me that God uses imperfect people to affect the world, and that He can use me too.
If you could have superhero powers, what would they be?
Invisibility would be cool and the power to travel in time!
If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you live?
Minnesota. I’d love to travel and see the world, but I’m a homebody at heart and love to be where my family is.
