I am pleased that you considering DTS as a possibility for enhancing and deepening both your knowledge of our Triune God and your relationship with him and his people. It is very likely that you are a bit unsure of where you are supposed to be, and what you should be doing in life currently. Fear not! The vast majority of our seminary students have been where you are, and many of them, though they have entered into the hallowed halls of this illustrious institution, are still battling similar feelings. I personally think it is a good place to be, since it is in these times when Christians are forced to trust in God. My encouragement to you is this—wherever you would like to end up, DTS is a worthy launching pad.

My initial desire to attend DTS came at the recommendation of my uncle Joseph Sanders, who is a pastor in Alexandria, Louisiana. As a teenager who was serious about God, I knew I needed proper training to be an effective minister to God’s people. It also didn’t hurt that my mother listened (and myself along with her) to Tony Evans daily on the radio. Like many of you I did not know exactly what I would do with the degree after receiving it, but I was sure that whatever I wanted to do pertaining to serving God’s people would be an option after attending here. I am a Houston extension student, so my DTS experience has been non-traditional, but it has given me the biblical training and preparation that I have sought, which will become crucial in my pursuit of a religious studies Ph.D.

If you decide to make DTS your place of transformation for the next few years, you will never be the same and you will not regret the choice.

What are your hobbies or outside interests?
I enjoy reading (I’m a DTS student!), which is remarkable considering I was a kid that hated reading until the 10th grade. The thing or game that cured me of that illness was chess. It fascinated me so much, that I began to read every book I could find on the subject. I love cooking with my wife Temia, especially experimenting with new recipes from the Food Network.

What made you decide to go to DTS?
Yeah, I jumped the gun and answered this question earlier. The only thing I would add is that being the research and library junky that I am, I researched the school just like I would any other topic, and decided that I did not want to go anywhere else.

What do you do on your day off?
Normally I read, and see what it feels like to do nothing (I mean that in its colloquial sense; philosophically, nothing only exists in relation to something...).

What are your favorite foods?
I will eat just about any type of seafood (not see-food), though I will try anything once. I know people who have allergic reactions to seafood and I feel sorry for them. They, more than anyone, should be looking forward to Christ’s return.

What is your favorite television show of all time?
“Picture it! Sicily 1924...” Just kidding, this is actually my wife’s favorite show. I would say A Different World or Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

What is the best part about working in the DTS admissions office?
The Admissions Team members are cool; they actually like each other.

What is your favorite piece of literature?
Race: A Theological Account, by J. Kameron Carter (a DTS alum).

What is your favorite quote?
“...that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death; in order that I may attain to the resurrection from the dead” (Phi. 3:10-11; NASB).

What is your favorite musical artist/group/genre of music?
I listen to all genres of music, but my favorite group has been Mint Condition since Junior High, primarily because the drummer (Chris Dave) attended my Junior High (Albert Sydney Johnston) and would sometimes come back and work with the current drummers/percussionists, of which I was one.

What was your major in college?
Christian Leadership

Who is the person you admire most and why?
My dad Robert G. Edwards Sr. has the trait of tenacity, which translates into him being able to accomplish most anything, because he never gives up.

Who is your favorite Bible character and why?
It would have to be the Sunday School answer, Jesus. The more I think about who he is and what he means to the contingency of human history, I am exhilarated and baffled at the same time.

If you could have superhero powers, what would they be?
If you can remember the cartoon ThunderCats, the leader Lion-O would often request of his Sword of Omens to give him sight-beyond-sight. I would like to delve into the depths of reality beyond the surface—to the essential nature of things.

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you live?
I am actually fine with where I am currently, but my wife would love to “click her heels,” and return to Kansas where she was born.
