Serving with DTS since: Fall 2013
Greetings and Welcome! Thank you for taking a moment to meet the Team Admissions. Dallas Theological Seminary continues to have a deep and meaningful impact in my life. I am excited about sharing my DTS experience with you. I am a 2013 graduate now entering into a new chapter in my DTS story. It is a privilege to be on Team Admissions and serve others as they navigate the seminary admissions process. When I applied to DTS I thought seminary was a place for very spiritual people and mostly just for future pastors or preachers. Being a college student, I did not know much about my future but I could tell you I was not going to be either of those. So seminary and DTS were not really on my radar. But through life circumstances, I decided to apply to DTS and reconsider seminary.
The first time I came to campus I realized God is doing special things in the lives of people at DTS. I instantly wanted to make myself available for that experience. So many times I have been amazed at the depth and insight into God’s word that is offered at here DTS. There are many great evangelical seminaries you can choose from, but Dallas offers a unique and meaningful approach to studying the Bible. The opportunity to learn from such gifted and inspiring faculty is a special blessing for students at DTS. Every student you speak with at DTS has a unique story of how DTS became their next step in following Christ. For some people, DTS is the place to receive the tools and skills necessary to fulfill a specific calling or ministry. Other people begin DTS unsure of exactly where God is leading them in life and ministry, and that’s great. I say that because that was definitely me!
After three years of being at DTS, I can tell you that the education DTS offers might be one of the most defining experiences you will have in following Christ. There were many unanswerable questions in my life when I began, but you don’t have to figure all of those things out. Just ask yourself if you are willing to follow God in faith. I sincerely hope Dallas Theological Seminary can be an exciting and rewarding chapter that God will write in your story of faithfulness!
What are your hobbies or outside interests?
I enjoy traveling abroad, getting outdoors as much as I can, reading and watching movies. I am thinking about starting a blog, we will see how that goes!
What made you decide to go to DTS?
When I visited campus God used my experience and interactions in such a clear way. I had no doubts that DTS was where I needed to study to learn more about the Bible, missions, and theology.
What do you do on your day off?
I always like to start off with a sunrise run or bike ride around the lake. When I can I ride the trolley downtown, but most of the time I hang out with friends and family playing games or watching a movie.
What are your favorite foods?
Anything fresh, local, and authentic. The best food usually has a story involved somewhere, that’s my real favorite.
What is your favorite television show of all time?
The Cosby Show.
What is the best part about working in the DTS admissions office?
The opportunity to assist new students make DTS a chapter in their faith story. To accomplish this, Team Admissions has a lot of fun working together and serving others.
What is your favorite piece of literature?
My all-time favorites are The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis. My most recent favorite is Love Does by Bob Goff, a book about finding whimsy in everyday life while following Christ.
What is your favorite quote?
I have a deep appreciation for words, so these are two favorites:
“Being a Christian is less about cautiously avoiding sin than about courageously and actively doing God's will.” ― Dietrich Bonhoeffer
“Eating and reading are two pleasures that combine admirably.” – C.S. Lewis
What is your favorite musical artist/group/genre of music?
I listen to everything from classical, jazz, indie and folk, rock, hip-hop, and techno. Some of my current playlist artists are Coldplay, Norah Jones, Credence Clearwater Revival, Tears For Fears, Needtobreathe, Switchfoot, and let’s not forget the man in black, Johnny Cash.
Who is the person you admire most and why?
Dr. Stanley Toussaint because of the great humility and joy he exhibited in every class at DTS. I have never met anyone as sincere and inspiring as Dr. Toussaint.
Who is your favorite Bible character and why?
Caleb, because of the patience and faithfulness he demonstrated to pursue God’s promises.
If you could have superhero powers, what would they be?
Mental powers to see forward and backward in time, the ability to communicate mentally, and control of atomic energy for super strength.
If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you live?
I would like to have a place in central London someday. Of all my travels, I have most enjoyed this part of the city because of the rich history and diverse people you meet there.
