Chaplain Gillen is a native of Detroit, MI. She earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from Spelman College (Atlanta, GA) and a Master of Divinity from Candler School of Theology (Atlanta, GA).

Chaplain Gillen was commissioned as a Lieutenant Junior Grade in April 1996 and has served at the following commands:

• Commander, Destroyer Squadron 7 – San Diego, CA

• Naval Station – San Diego, CA

• Marine Corps Base – Quantico, VA

• Coast Guard Training Center – Cape May, NJ

• 2nd Marine Logistics Group – Camp Lejeune, NC

• Naval Chaplaincy School and Center – Columbia, SC

• USS JOHN C. STENNIS (CVN74) – Bremerton, WA

• Bureau of Naval Personnel 3 – Millington, TN

• Navy Personnel Command – Millington, TN

• Marine Corps Installations Command – Washington, DC

Currently, Chaplain Gillen is assigned to Headquarters Marine Corps as the Deputy Chaplain of the Marine Corps in Washington, D.C., ensuring the free exercise of religion for more than 330,000 Marines, Sailors, and families. Chaplain Gillen is married to Reverend Eugene Gillen of Grand Rapids, MI and they are the parents of four children. Chaplain Gillen’s favorite scripture is Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
